Preparing For Your Session
Clothing
The best route to go is to keep it simple. When you think out about what you’re going to wear, keep in mind that for a headshot, it is only going to be an image of your head and shoulders - so it really just comes down to the shoulders and neckline. Solid colors/neutrals are typically my go-to choice since it helps keep the focus on you. Please feel free to bring multiple options, I have space for you to hang your clothes and you can change. I suggest bringing at least 3 options.
Try to bring:
• clothes you love and you feel great in
• clothes that fit well
• clothes that are one solid color
• clothes that are black, white or any shade of grey
• layer options; a jacket, blazer or sweater that works well with one or more of your tops
• if you plan on wearing a tie, definitely bring a few options
Try not to bring:
• overbearing/distracting patterns
• baggy, loose clothing, puffy sleeves (they add extra unwanted pounds)
• asymmetrical/single shoulder tops
• wrinkled clothing
• clothes that don't fit
Most importantly, trust your own judgment, even if it contradicts what I just mentioned. If you have a bold patterned or brightly colored shirt that you believe is perfect, please bring it in!
Hair + Makeup
Please ensure your hair is styled as you would like to appear in your pictures. You are in charge here because hair is deeply personal, and it's crucial that you feel genuine. If needed, bring along any styling products you use to achieve your desired look if you need to make any adjustments - and remember to bring a hair tie as well.
Men, please arrive with your facial hair as you wish to have captured.
If you wear makeup daily, please continue reading; if not, this may not be relevant for you.
Your headshot should reflect your authentic self, so I recommend keeping your makeup simple and sticking close to your usual routine. You can always add more makeup during the session, so feel free to bring your makeup kit with you. Throughout the shoot, we'll be reviewing images for immediate feedback on makeup and other aspects.
Additionally, my retouching process includes blemish removal and skin softening, so there's no need to worry if you happen to have a few breakouts the day before.
Jewelry
As with clothing, jewelry should be kept to a minimum so that it does not distract from the focus of the headshot which is you. Unless you wear it on a daily basis, I suggest leaving it at home in the jewelry box.
